This is an organization-level map only — organizations and public communities, never people. Individual member, moderator, participant, and staff data is never published anywhere on this map. On the community census specifically (Reddit and social platforms, linked below): sizes under 1,000 are not shown, so a count can never be small enough to identify who’s inside a community, and roughly two-thirds of those rows are listing-only — found to exist, but not independently confirmed — carrying a ⚠️ unconfirmed mark rather than being silently presented as checked. Free-text notes, moderation/activity signals, and anything else that could read as a “how to work this community” guide were deliberately excluded before any page on this map was built.

The Commons Map

A Torontonian opens this page and finds the map of who’s already doing the work — every organization, media outlet, tech hub, online community, and book that’s a door into a tribe — and can find their own ward’s slice of it. An organization finds itself on the map, and its entry point into the movement. A volunteer sees exactly which row still needs building.

Why map the tribes at all

Nobody organizes Toronto from scratch — Toronto is already organized. Hundreds of organizations, congregations, cultural associations, clubs, diasporas, outlets, tech builders and crews already meet, already care, already act. Connection means inviting the rooms that already exist to talk to each other, not building new ones — and a map is where that starts. This map will never be finished, and that’s the invitation: find your own tribes on it, and if we missed one, tell us on the Harvest. The wider doorway to all of this is Connect — find your people.

Build it with us

Every row on this map started as one person deciding to check whether an organization was still there. If you want to help extend it — a ward we haven’t reached yet, a community we missed, a dead link to fix — take a work packet and build the next row.
